Two New Uranus Moons May Have Been Discovered

NASA

Since 1986, researchers have thought that Uranus has 27 moons. Now, researchers think that the icy planet could have two additional moons hidden within the ring that surrounds Uranus. Researchers from the University of Idaho in Moscow took a closer look at the data from NASA’s Voyager 2 probe which initially discovered the moons. The researchers found wavy patterns in two of Uranus’ icy rings. This new finding could be explained by the presence of moons. “These patterns may be wakes from small moonlets orbiting exterior to these rings,” the researchers said in the report. According to New Scientist, Mark Showalter of SETI Institute in Mountain View, California plans to example Hubble Space Telescope observations. He hopes to discover whether the moons exist, and whether other moons might be orbiting the planet.

If we could travel to Uranus, would you want to go visit it? Why or why not.
